Sister Kathleen Kelly, CSJ, PhD

Chair, Ascension Health Board of Trustees

Sr. Kathleen Kelly, CSJ, PhD, was appointed as Chair of the Ascension Health Board of Trustees in July 2008, and has served as a member of the Board of Trustees since July 2004. She also has served as a member of the Ascension Health Sponsor’s Council. She is currently the Director of Development for Saint Mary’s Academy, a girls’ high school in inner city Los Angeles, sponsored by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet.

Sister Jean Katherine deBlois, CSJ, PhD

Member, Ascension Health Board of Trustees

Sister Jean deBlois, CSJ, PhD, is a member of the Ascension Health Board of Trustees. In 2002, she was named Provincial Councilor for the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet, located in St. Louis, Mo., and a Sponsor Liaison for Ascension Health. Additionally, Sister Jean is an Assistant Professor of Moral Theology and Director, Master of Arts in Health Care Mission at the Aquinas Institute of Theology, St. Louis, Mo. Sister Jean entered religious life with the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet in 1968.

André L. Delbecq, DBA

Member, Ascension Health Board of Trustees

André L. Delbecq, DBA, is a member of the Ascension Health Board of Trustees. Since 1996, Dr. Delbecq has served as the J. Thomas and Kathleen L. McCarthy University Professor at Santa Clara University, Santa Clara, Calif., where he served as Dean in the Leavey School of Business from 1979-1989. Prior to 1979, he spent 12 years at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and four years at the University of Toledo.

William "Bill" C. Finlayson, LFACHE

Member, Ascension Health Board of Trustees

William "Bill" C. Finlayson, LFACHE, is a member of the Ascension Health Board of Trustees. Currently retired, Mr. Finlayson devotes his time to his parish and volunteer activities in the Tucson, Ariz., area. Mr. Finlayson earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Utah, Salt Lake City, and a Master of Science in Hospital Administration from Trinity University, San Antonio, Texas.

The Rev. Dennis H. Holtschneider, C.M., Ed.D.

Member, Ascension Health Board of Trustees

The Rev. Dennis H. Holtschneider, CM, is a member of the Ascension Health Board of Trustees. He currently is serving as the president of DePaul University, Chicago. Prior to joining DePaul University, Father Holtschneider served as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at Niagara University in Niagara Falls, N.Y., from 2000 to 2004.

Sister Ellen Kron, DC

Member, Ascension Health Board of Trustees

Sr. Ellen Kron, DC, is a member of the Ascension Health Board of Trustees. She is a councilor for the Daughters of Charity St. Louis Province. Sr. Ellen earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology from University of New Orleans and master’s degrees in business administration and social work from Washington University, St. Louis. She is a licensed clinical social worker and is a member of the Academy of Certified Social Workers. She also has certification in family therapy.

John "Jack" O. Mudd, JD, JSD

Member, Ascension Health Board of Trustees

John "Jack" O. Mudd, JD, was appointed to the Ascension Health Board of Trustees in 2000 and served as the Chair from November 2003 through June 2008. Mr. Mudd serves as Senior Vice President, Mission Leadership, Providence Health & Services, Seattle, Wash. Mr. Mudd received his bachelor's and master's degrees in philosophy from The Catholic University of America, Washington, D.C. He earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Montana; a Master of Law degree and a Doctor of the Science of Law degree from Columbia University, New York City, where he also was a Wien Fellow.

Sister Kathleen Natwin, DC

Member, Ascension Health Board of Trustees

Sister Kathleen Natwin, DC, is a member of the Ascension Health Board of Trustees. She currently serves as Provincial Councilor for the Albany, N.Y., Province of the Daughters of Charity. In this role she is also the Sponsor Liaison for her Province to Ascension Health. Sister Kathleen became a member of the Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent dePaul on March 11, 1969.

Sister Theresa Peck, DC

Member, Ascension Health Board of Trustees

Sister Theresa Peck, DC, is a member of the Ascension Health Board of Trustees. Sister Theresa serves as Provincial Councilor, Councilor for Health, and Treasurer, Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent dePaul, Evansville, Ind. Sister Theresa earned her registered nurse diploma from St. Mary's Hospital, Milwaukee. She went on to receive her bachelor's degree in nursing at Marillac College, Normandy, Mo.; a master’s of business administration from The George Washington University, Washington, D.C.

Sister Jean Rhoads, DC

Member, Ascension Health Board of Trustees

Sister Jean Rhoads, DC, is a member of the Ascension Health Board of Trustees. She is a Provincial Councilor of the Emmitsburg Province of the Daughters of Charity in Emmitsburg, Md., and concurrently serves in the role of Sponsor Liaison for the Province. Sr. Jean earned a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education from Mount Saint Mary's College in Emmitsburg, Md., a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., and a Master of Science in health services administration from The George Washington University in Washington, D.C.

Ciro V. Sumaya, MD, MPHTM

Member, Ascension Health Board of Trustees

Ciro V. Sumaya, MD, MPHTM, is a member of the Ascension Health Board of Trustees. He is the Dean of the School of Rural Public Health and holds the Cox Endowed Chair in Medicine at Texas A&M University Health Science Center. Dr. Sumaya earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Texas, Austin, and a medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston. Following a rotating internship at the Los Angeles County General Hospital, he completed a pediatric residency at St. Christopher's Hospital for Children, Philadelphia, and a post-graduate fellowship in pediatric infectious diseases concurrent with a Master of Public Health degree at Tulane University, New Orleans.

Anthony R. Tersigni, EdD, FACHE

President and Chief Executive Officer, Ascension Health

Dr. Anthony Tersigni was appointed President and CEO of Ascension Health on June 18, 2004. Prior to his appointment as President and CEO, he served as Ascension Health’s Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer from January 2001 through December 2003. He was interim CEO for the System beginning in January 2004. From 1995 to 2000, Dr. Tersigni was President and Chief Executive Officer at St. John Health, Detroit, Ascension Health’s largest integrated health system. He also served the St. John system as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer from 1994 to 1995.

Mary Joan Walsh, CSJ

Member, Ascension Health Board of Trustees

Sister Mary Joan Walsh, CSJ, is a member of the Ascension Health Board of Trustees. Sister Mary Joan earned a bachelor's degree from Nazareth College, Nazareth, Mich., in 1969, and a master's degree in religious studies from Aquinas College, Grand Rapids, Mich., in 1978.From 1955 to 1972, Sister Mary Joan held various teaching positions in Michigan, and from 1972 to 1979, she was Director of Religious Education. Next, she joined the Sisters of St. Joseph Business Office in Nazareth, Mich., where she was employed from 1979 to 1983.

Agnieszka Winkler

Agnieszka Winkler is a member of the Ascension Health Board of Trustees. She is the founder and Chairman of The Winkler Group, a management consultancy specializing in branding and marketing efficiency and effectiveness. Ms. Winkler received a bachelor’s degree from Holy Names University, Oakland, Calif., a master’s degree from San Jose State University, San Jose, Calif., and a MBA from Santa Clara University, Santa Clara, Calif.

Herbert J. Vallier

Member, Ascension Health Board of Trustees

Mr. Vallier is a member of the Ascension Health Board of Trustees. He is currently serving as Senior Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer at Catholic Health Initiatives (CHI), where he is a member of the President’s Council and is responsible for developing and directing national human resources strategies, policies, programs and processes focused on accomplishing CHI’s strategic mission, vision and values. He also is a member of the CHAN Associate Services Committee, the Centura Health Executive Compensation Committee and the CHA Diversity Committee.
