Sr. Kathleen Kelly, CSJ, PhD, was appointed as Chair of the Ascension Health Board of Trustees in July 2008, and has served as a member of the Board of Trustees since July 2004. She also has served as a member of the Ascension Health Sponsor’s Council. She is currently the Director of Development for Saint Mary’s Academy, a girls’ high school in inner city Los Angeles, sponsored by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet.

Sr. Kathleen earned a bachelor's degree from Mount St. Mary’s College, Los Angeles, Calif., in 1959, a master's degree in medieval history from Mount St. Mary’s College in 1961, and a Ph.D. from University of Southern California in 1982.

She served as Vice President of Mount St. Mary’s College with responsibility for the Doheny Campus from 1991 to 1999, and was the Dean of the Associates Arts Program and Graduate Division at that campus from 1982 to 1999. During this time she also was an American Council on Education Fellow and served as the Acting Director of Development at Hood College in Frederick, Md., from 1987-1988.

Sr. Kathleen has served on the boards of Carondelet Health Network, Tucson, Ariz., and Daniel Freeman Hospital, Inglewood, Calif. While serving on the Membership Council of Carondelet Health System, St. Louis, Mo., she participated with the Negotiating Team with Ascension Health and has served as a member of the Sponsors Council of Ascension Health. Sr. Kathleen served at the United Nations, in the Sisters of St. Joseph Federation Non-Government Office, working with the international issue of human trafficking and she gives presentations and workshops to educate people about this tragic problem.
