
Sister Jean Rhoads, DC Ascension Health Board of Trustees
Sister Jean Rhoads, DC, is a member of the Ascension Health Board of Trustees. She is a Provincial Councilor of the Emmitsburg Province of the Daughters of Charity in Emmitsburg, Md., and concurrently serves in the role of Sponsor Liaison for the Province.
Sr. Jean earned a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education from Mount Saint Mary's College in Emmitsburg, Md., a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., and a Master of Science in health services administration from The George Washington University in Washington, D.C.
Sr. Jean served as Vice President of Mission Integration at Providence Hospital in Washington, D.C., from 2004 to 2005, and in the same position at Sacred Heart Health System in Pensacola, Fla., from 1998 to 2004.
In 1991, Sr. Jean volunteered at Catholic Social Ministries in Fayetteville, N.C., to establish a free, non-denominational health and dental clinic for the working poor and uninsured of Cumberland County. She then served as the Director of this CARE Clinic from 1993 to 1998. She also has served as Cancer Line Administrator for St. Agnes Hospital, Baltimore. Prior to that, she was a registered nurse at Sacred Heart Hospital, Pensacola, Fla., and an elementary school teacher at St. Dominic School in Baltimore.
Sr. Jean has received numerous recognitions, including the Citizen of the Year Award from Fayetteville, N.C., for exemplifying collaboration and dedication to improve the health of the working poor in that city; the Athena Award, for entrepreneurial and collaborative skills demonstrated as a female leader in Fayetteville, N.C.; and the Governor's Award from the State of North Carolina, for successfully organizing a free health clinic in Fayetteville, N.C.
